If you’re looking for Incident IQ geo-tracking, geolocation, or geolocation tracking, Senturo brings all of that directly into Incident IQ Assets, plus two big gaps most K-12 teams can’t solve with MDM alone:

  • A true Windows remote lock for Intune-managed laptops, where Intune doesn’t offer a native remote lock for Windows 10/11 desktops.
  • The most recently signed-in user on the device, not just the MDM or SIS assignment.

Many K-12 IT teams already live in Incident IQ. The Senturo + Incident IQ Assets integration adds cross-platform device geo-tracking and recovery actions directly onto Incident IQ asset pages so technicians can respond faster, switch tools less, and keep students learning with fewer disruptions - even in Intune-heavy Windows laptop fleets.

Senturo supports Chromebooks, Windows, MacBooks, iPads, and Android devices, with location updates every 10 minutes during normal monitoring and real-time tracking when a device is marked Missing.

Closes the Windows remote lock gap in Intune environments.

For Intune-managed Windows 10/11 laptops, the built-in Remote lock action is greyed out and not supported for Windows desktop devices. Senturo adds a reliable Windows remote lock that works alongside Intune, so K-12 teams can:

  • Lock a missing Windows laptop in under a minute.
  • Use consistent lock/unlock workflows across Windows, ChromeOS, and macOS.
  • Trigger those actions straight from Incident IQ asset pages.

Core actions available inside Incident IQ

These actions appear as links on Incident IQ asset pages after setup and after the next nightly sync, where applicable.

View Location with exportable history

  • Opens a Google Maps geolocation view with the last known location and a timestamp.
  • Exports the last 15 location records for reporting or investigations.
  • Ideal when SROs, principals, or parents need clear geolocation tracking evidence.

Change Status: Monitored ↔ Missing

  • Switches a device between Monitored and Missing.
  • Marking a device as missing activates real-time geo-tracking and tighter audit logging.

Lock Device (ChromeOS, Mac, Windows)

  • Locks the device on the next internet connection.
  • Supports lock-screen contact info, recovery message, unlock password, and optional images.

Unlock Device (ChromeOS, Mac, Windows)

  • Confirms and unlocks the device when it reconnects to the internet.
  • Tracking remains active after unlock.

Wipe Device (Mac, Windows)

Missing Mode and tracking data captured

Default tracking can be set as low as every 10 minutes. In Missing Mode, real-time tracking is enabled across operating systems with the following data capture:

  • Windows, macOS, ChromeOS: real-time location and network data, including IP & SSID (SSID is unavailable on ChromeOS), with optional end-user screenshots.
  • iOS and Android: real-time location and network data, including SSID and IP.

All events are logged with audit trails, so districts have clear evidence for device recovery, investigations, and compliance.

How to set up the Senturo + Incident IQ connection

Prerequisites

  • Incident IQ admin access to generate an API token and create custom fields.
  • Senturo admin access to connect the system and manage users.

Step 1: Generate an Incident IQ API key

  1. In Incident IQ, go to Admin → Developer Tools → API Tokens.
Create or search for Admin API Agent
  2. Copy the key immediately—Incident IQ only shows it once.

Step 2: Connect Incident IQ inside Senturo

  1. In Senturo, go to Integrations → Incident IQ → Connect.
  2. Enter your Incident IQ URL and API key.
  3. Select Connect.

Step 3: Sync users and assign permissions

After connecting:

  • Existing Senturo users can be auto-whitelisted, and API keys are generated, with a CSV download available.
  • Additional users can be added through CSV upload using email-based entries.
  • Permissions can be assigned granularly for View Location, Change Status, Lock, Unlock, and Wipe.

Step 4: Create the required custom fields in Incident IQ

  1. In Incident IQ, go to Admin → Custom Fields → New Custom Field.
  2. Choose Rich Text.
  3. Create these five fields with exact names, including capitalization and prefix:
  • Senturo: Location
  • Senturo: Change Status
  • Senturo: Lock Device
  • Senturo: Unlock Device
  • Senturo: Wipe Device

If the names do not match exactly, the action links will not display.

Step 5: Verify and test

  • Open a device asset page in Incident IQ.
  • Go to Meta Information and confirm the Senturo fields appear.
  • Confirm you can see Senturo actions.
  • Click a non-destructive action such as View Location.
  • If links are missing for a new device, wait for the next nightly sync or, if urgent, trigger a manual sync.

Security and admin best practices for K-12

Use role-based permissions with least privilege

A practical tiered model:

  • Entry-level staff: View Location and Change Status.
  • Mid-level techs: add Lock and Unlock.
  • Senior admins: Wipe—limited tightly and audited.

Treat API keys like passwords

  • Store API keys securely and rotate them regularly.
  • A common practice is to do it every 90 days, especially after staff changes or suspected compromise.

Audit access quarterly

  • Review who has access, remove former employees, and document high-risk permission changes, especially wipes.
  • Confirm that only appropriate roles can see and act on geo-tracking and geolocation data.

Troubleshooting quick fixes

Action links are not showing on Incident IQ asset pages

  • Confirm custom field names match exactly, including the Senturo: prefix and capitalization.
  • Confirm the device is enrolled in Senturo.
  • For new devices, wait for the nightly sync or request a manual sync if urgent.
  • Confirm the connection is still active and regenerate or update the API key if needed.

Privacy note for districts

Senturo tracking is designed for admin-controlled, incident-driven workflows, especially in Missing Mode, and supports encrypted data and audit logging, as documented in the setup guide.

For district policy, document:

  • When geo-tracking and geolocation history can be used
  • Who can access location data and last signed-in user information
  • How exports are handled and how long they’re retained

Align communication templates for staff and families so expectations are clear.

FAQ: Incident IQ + Senturo geo-tracking and geolocation

How often does Senturo update the device location in Incident IQ?

In normal monitoring, locations update every 10 minutes. When a device is marked Missing, tracking becomes real-time.

How long does it take for Senturo action links to appear on new Incident IQ assets?

Senturo syncs nightly. New assets usually receive action links and updated geo-tracking and last-user data within 24 hours.

Does the Incident IQ integration show the last signed-in user from the device?

Yes. Senturo sends the most recently signed-in user from the device to Incident IQ, so technicians can see who used the device most recently—even if MDM or SIS assignments are out of date.

What do I need to configure in Incident IQ for the connection to work?

You must create five Rich Text custom fields with exact names:

  • Senturo: Location
  • Senturo: Change Status
  • Senturo: Lock Device
  • Senturo: Unlock Device
  • Senturo: Wipe Device

Which devices can be locked or unlocked from Incident IQ?

Lock and Unlock actions apply to ChromeOS, Mac, and Windows devices.

Is wipe reversible?

No. Wipe is permanent, requires API key confirmation, and includes an acknowledgement step. Senturo remains installed, so tracking and audit history continue after the wipe.

Does Incident IQ have built-in geo-tracking, or do we need Senturo?

Incident IQ is a powerful asset and ticketing platform. Senturo adds cross-platform geo-tracking, geolocation history, and recovery actions so K-12 IT can locate, lock, and recover devices directly from Incident IQ asset pages.
