The Challenge
As Euclid City Schools expanded their digital safety strategy with Linewize’s filtering and classroom management platform, they identified an opportunity to add specialized device location and recovery capabilities, especially in the instance of missing or runaway students. While Linewize focuses on web-based student safety and instructional tools, the district wanted dedicated geo-tracking for asset management and student welfare scenarios. Through Linewize’s partnership with Senturo, they found a complementary solution designed specifically for this purpose.

The Solution
Euclid deployed Senturo alongside Google Admin Console (Chromebooks) and Jamf School(iPadOS/macOS) with no changes to classroom tools. Senturo is straightforward to deploy via Jamf School; tracking runs every 10 minutes by default and escalates to real-time in Missing Mode for time-sensitive recoveries. Senturo’s Chrome Lock keeps devices trackable while blocking Google services; broadcasts reach devices quickly; and automations help deter hotspot/VPN misuse during school hours. Location can be obfuscated until needed under district policy, and every action is time-stamped with user context for auditability.

Implementation (First 48 Hours)
Devices appeared in the Senturo console within minutes; district-boundary and after-hours geofences were created on day one. On day two, a device left off-site was located, locked with a contact message, and recovered that afternoon, no police report and no ticket ping-pong.

Student Safety Response
When minutes matter, IT can trigger Missing Mode to move from standard 10-minute pings to real-time telemetry and build a time-stamped evidence trail (location history and network details). On Windows and ChromeOS devices, optional, audit-logged screenshots can be captured only while Missing Mode is active; on Windows, these screenshots, along with SSID and IP data, can help reveal intent (for example, travel or transit pages) to support welfare checks and recoveries. On ChromeOS, Senturo captures IP-based network data(SSID is not exposed on ChromeOS), while macOS/iPadOS devices provide real-time location and network context without screenshots

Results
Most incidents now resolve the same day, avoiding replacement and loaner churn and saving~30 IT hours per month. Missing Mode provides real-time telemetry during active incidents and a time-stamped evidence trail (location history and network details) that can be exported for leadership, SROs, or law enforcement when required. On Chromebooks and Windows, optional, audit-logged screenshots can be captured only while Missing Mode is active; on Windows, these may reveal intent (for example, travel or transit pages) that supports welfare checks and recoveries without guessing.

Operational Efficiency
With last-logged-in user and location history in one place, attendance and school staff resolve mix-ups faster. One-way broadcasts handle test-day prep, OS-update nudges, and “chargey our Chromebook” reminders, reducing classroom interruptions and back-and-forth tickets.

Fleet Management and Security
Senturo’s Chrome Lock provides a measured response during recoveries while keeping location live; a full Google Admin lock is reserved for last-resort “brick it” cases. Geofence and time-window automations raise alerts and can auto-lock or trigger Missing Mode based on policy—for example, when devices leave district boundaries after hours or connect via hotspots during school time.

Compliance and Family Notification
Senturo’s privacy-first model supports district policies and state requirements (for example,Ohio SB 29). Euclid issues an annual notice district-wide, and when location is accessed under a permitted circumstance, a parent/guardian notification is sent via the district’s SIS. Audit logs show who accessed which device’s data, when, and under which incident, helping the district demonstrate governance and restraint.

Commercial Fit and Rollout
Per-student pricing with unlimited devices simplified procurement and ensured full coverage across students, staff, and spares. Euclid was able to protect student Chromebooks, iPads, and faculty MacBooks without juggling per-device licences or leaving gaps in coverage for loaners and carts.

A Lasting Partnership
Senturo is now part of Euclid’s standard operating playbook, shortening recoveries, strengthening student-safety response, and giving principals, SROs, and IT a single source oftruth they trust.

FAQ
Q: How do Linewize and Senturo work together?
A: Keep Linewize for filtering and classroom management. Add Senturo for location history, real-time tracking in Missing Mode, Senturo’s Chrome Lock, broadcast messaging, and policy automations, without changing your MDMs (including deployment via Jamf School).
Q: What happens when a device goes missing?
A: Turn on Missing Mode to shift from standard 10-minute updates to real-time tracking. OnChromebooks, Senturo’s Chrome Lock can block access while keeping location active until recovery. On Chromebooks and Windows, optional, audit-logged screenshots (captured onlywhile Missing Mode is active) can provide additional context, for example, travel or transit pages to support welfare and recovery efforts.
Q: How does Senturo support missing or runaway student scenarios?
A: Missing Mode provides real-time telemetry of the device’s location and network context, with audit-logged screenshots on supported OSes that can reveal intent (for example, travel ortransit pages) to aid welfare cases and recoveries.
Q: Which devices and MDMs does Senturo support?
A: ChromeOS, iPadOS, macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android in one console. Native integrations include Google Admin Console, Microsoft Intune, Jamf Pro, and Cisco Meraki Systems Manager; districts using Jamf School can deploy Senturo via Jamf School.
Q: Is this setup compliant with our privacy and safety requirements?
A: Senturo uses privacy-first controls and audit logs and supports district notification workflows via your SIS. Location can be obfuscated by default and surfaced only underdefined incident workflows, helping districts balance safety, accountability, and privacy expectations.
Q: What does Linewize tracking cover, and does it include device geo-tracking?
A: Linewize provides comprehensive web filtering, classroom management, and online student safety monitoring – the digital layer of student protection. For districts that also need physical device location and recovery capabilities, that’s where Senturo comes in to provide specialized geo-tracking. Together, they offer more complete visibility: Linewize monitors what students do online, while Senturo tracks where district-managed devices are physically located and how they move over time.
